"There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about." - Margaret Wheatley
Ericka is a 30+ year veteran of Corrections Services Canada, with a career that touched on security operations, case management, interventions, training.
She believes that providing support to those who have experienced mental illness or addiction, and are in recovery, means more than pointing them in the direction of where they can "find services" More precisely, there is value in providing a place where they can navigate existing services, gain confidence and forge a new path, while building connections to the community, skills and work experience.
In The Works- A Social Enterprise Network was created to be that place.

Carole managed and delivered a youth leadership program across Canada and as far away as Indonesia to youth between the ages of 15-20 for over 25 years.
Carole continues to be in touch with many of the people who attended the program with positive stories of the differences the program made for them.
Carole and her partner also had the privilege of fostering for over 10 years. They opened their home to 12 youth who were wards of the province. The plan was to keep them for a minimum of 5 years- some were single, while others were siblings. They were 14 when they came to Carole's home and left when they turned 19 and today, they come home whenever they can.
"We had lots of struggles as they adjusted to a new way of thinking and doing things. We accomplished our goal for the ones who wanted to improve their attitudes and lives and are proud to say they most are doing very well in their new lives today. They consider us family now and I could not ask for anything better."
Carole now has some more quiet time and wanted to get involved with youth again with through "In The Works". "I'm hoping that the experience I've gained over time could help other young people who are struggling to give themselves a better life. I don't have a solution for all, but I'm definitely interested in making a difference for other youth."
